JSSpamBlock 1.4
Update: Due to lack of time and interest (on my part), I am no longer maintaining JSSpamBlock or ImageScaler.
It must look like JSSpamBlock is all I have been working on these days, which is the opposite of true. I have a couple cool projects coming along that I hope to post soon, but I fixed another oversight in JSSpamBlock. Basically, if you installed JSSpamBlock in a folder called /jsspamblock/ in the plugins directory (rather than putting the file directly in the plugins directory), the activate hook was not called, so the database tables were not created. This is now fixed. Thanks to david_kw of exfer network for discovering the problem and the solution. You can find the new JSSpamBlock 1.4 in the WordPress plugin directory.

Keep up the good work Paul,
once your blog has some good content I’ll put you back on my blogroll. I had to apply some stricter blogroll guidelines to ensure my pagerank came out good. I hit 5.. 0 to 5 right away which was pretty darn good.
Congrats, I went from 0 to 5 too. I didn’t “optimize my blogroll” though, I just keep it up to date with the blogs I find relevant to this site ;). I don’t expect people on my blogroll to link back to me; I use this more as a central place for personal projects than a personal blog. I have some cool projects nearing release, so keep checking back.
hi,
your spablock plugin looks like it’s exactly what I need.
I’ll try it out now
Thanks
Awesome plugin – works like a charm.
Just a little n00b question… How can I move the position of the additional field in my comment field – right now it appears after the submit button, not before it…
Actually – nevermind my question… I should learn to properly read the ReadMe.txt file before I start asking silly questions!
I have been using version 1.4 since it came out, and in general it works quite well – thanks!
I have noticed however, that a few “bot” type posts still get through. Some of them are trapped out by other word-based filters I have and others make it into the moderation queue.
Obviously, a few bots are able to figure out what your plugin is doing and get around it, but the volume of garbage spam has gone down a lot.
I installed this plugin a couple weeks ago and have had zero spam posts since I implemented it. I manually changed the input input field from ‘jsspamblock_input’ to something custom to make sure that spam bots have an even more difficult time trying to get around it. Works great though and I’m very happy with it.

Thanks for the comments Brandon – I noticed the post on your blog about JSSpamBlock. I like the input name change idea, I might consider incorporating it in the future.
Paul,
I hope you don’t mind, I stripped out the important parts of your script into a couple pieces for use in non WordPress installations. They should be implemented easily enough into any guestbook script, etc.

Kevin, I don’t mind at all. I actually came across your site through referrer logs, and was about to do a post on your (and other) modifications of JSSpamBlock and the future of the plugin.
This update fixed the database problem I’d stumbled into and not gotten around to fix. Many thanks for your plugin!
Hi,
I’m using Spamblock (great work! :-)) a lot of weeks and have no Spam, this is good. But now I become Mails from real users and they grumble, because their comment is not online. But I do not have anything received… It be can that? Do other users have perhaps the same problem? I’m testing the Plugin under Windows and Linux with Firefox, Opera and IE (only Win) and it works fine. I am helpless…
